Eponymous Debut Cover Art

Eponymous Debut

Our first album has been a work-in-progress, slowly building over the last two years until reaching a form ready for the world to hear. It includes a fairly eclectic mix of musical styles with a general theme of mental instability. There are progressive epics which veer wildly between Pink Floyd guitar solos and avant-garde serialism, gently quirky acoustic songs, spoken word pieces recited over atmospheric backgrounds and good old-fashioned rock 'n' roll. Something for everyone.

Difficult Second Cover Art

Difficult Second

The Lunacy Board avoided traditional difficulties with recording our second album by forcing ourselves to write, record and mix the whole of 'Difficult Second' within a single day. The results, whilst perhaps a little rougher around the edges than we would usually produce, reflect and build upon the genre-hopping music and intelligent yet humorous lyrics of our 'Eponymous Debut' album.

The tracks range from short, three-minute long acoustic songs, via rock, pop and genres in-between to a long improvised instrumental track coming in at over 15 minutes long full of textures new and old. Topics covered by the songs feature Board stalwarts like love and the state of the World, but also focus on 'reality' television, life choices, counterfeit watches and even UK haulier Eddie Stobart. Like the first album, the styles you'll hear are wide in range, having been likened to artists as diverse as Jethro Tull and David Bowie, and yet still distinctively The Lunacy Board.

Collaborators on this album are thereminists Beat Frequency and Wilco Botermans who have done some great work adding unusual sounds and haunting harmonies to the already eclectic mix.

Stockholm Cover Art

Stockholm

Our third album was actually the first thing we began recording - a number of instrumental pieces which form the soundtrack to a forthcoming animated film produced by The Board. Most are improvisations, some are gently ambient in nature somewhere between Tangerine Dream and Robert Fripp, others pure psychedelic krautrock. Don't expect to be able to sing along to any of these.
